You can feel it in the air, the change of season, the movement to cooler mornings and evenings, Fall is its on its way. With the change in seasons, there is also movement from a humid environment to a much drier one. Your skin is the thermostat for your body and the changes in weather result in changes in blood flow, thereby causing changes in your skin. During dry cold months, decreased blood circulation may result in a reduction in the naturally occurring soils (sebum) in your skin. Some common things one may notice because of the changing season from warmer to cooler are:
- Dry flaky skin;
- Taut skin;
- Cracked lips; and
- Increased breakouts and flare ups.
Some suggested treatments that are offered at Cher-Mère to combat the impact of summer are:
Microdermabrasion: a non-invasive skin resurfacing treatment which utilizes a stream of micro-crystals projected onto the skin and then vacuumed away. The treatment removes layers of dead and flaking skin, whilst stimulating collagen production and cellular renewal leaving skin feeling smooth, soft and renewed.
Facials: consist of a series of steps, that deep clean, remove build up of whiteheads and blackheads in pores while stimulating blood circulation.
There is no cookie cutter answer, however, a consistent good daily skin care routine dispersed with facials will help with a smooth transition between seasons. In addition, some other factors that may aid the transition include:
- Drinking water – we have all done it, forget to drink enough water because it is cold!
- Taking omegas
- Be mindful that electric heating sources, air conditioning and fires may cause the skin to dry out so that drinking water and using a good moisturizer will help counteract the effects.
