This year Cher-Mère proudly celebrates 40 years!
What began as a mission to create safe, natural products for people of colour—free from harsh and damaging chemicals—has blossomed into a brand trusted by families across the Caribbean and beyond. Cher-Mère is deeply rooted in the wisdom and traditions of four generations of women. The inspiration began with my grandmother, Merle, a hairdresser and esthetician who witnessed firsthand the harmful effects of chemical-laden products. She encouraged my mother, Cheryl, to leave her position as a chemist at Nestlé and begin creating natural alternatives. My mother learned the foundations of skin and hair care from her own grandmother, Mama Waldron, who shared her homemade recipes using ingredients like cucumber skin, aloe, and egg whites. Blending this generational knowledge with scientific expertise, Cheryl Bowles brought the Cher-Mère brand to life. Today, I (Aba) continue to support in every way I can, proudly carrying forward our family’s legacy and sharing these beautiful, heritage-inspired products with the world.
At Cher-Mère, we’ve always believed that nature provides the best care. Our products reflect that belief—handcrafted with plant-based, organic ingredients and backed by science. But more than that, they’re built on love—love for our heritage, for healthy skin, and for creating a space where people can care for their bodies at every age, from the young to the young at heart.
Our journey began with a vision: to honor traditional beauty rituals, passed down through generations, and to offer skincare that was both effective and natural. Today, four decades later, that vision is still at the heart of everything we do.
Adding to that family and community spirit is our commitment to giving back. Through our outreach and donation initiatives, both in Trinidad and in Canada,we recognize that we are part of a larger community and world. We are deeply aware of the importance of creating balance, not only in skincare, but in how we support the people and places that support us.
