At Cher-Mère, beauty is more than what we see in the mirror, it's how we honour ourselves, each other, and the land we walk on. This May 5th, we pause to acknowledge the National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit People (MMIWG2S+). This day is not only a time for remembrance, but a call to collective responsibility and action.
We recognize the painful truth: Indigenous women and 2SLGBTQ+ individuals face violence at disproportionately high rates. We hold space for grief, but also for action. We honour the spirits of those lost and the resilience of their communities by committing to learning, listening, and taking meaningful steps forward.
At Cher-Mère, we include a land acknowledgment on our website and brochures as a reminder that we operate on lands historically and presently cared for by Indigenous peoples. This acknowledgment isn’t a formality, it is a commitment to building relationships based on respect, equity, and truth.
By recognizing the original stewards of this land, we ground ourselves in the values that are at the heart of holistic wellness: connection, respect, balance, and reciprocity
Indigenous cultures around the world have long embraced holistic approaches to wellness that value the emotional, spiritual, physical, and mental aspects of well-being. These teachings align beautifully with Cher-Mère culture and products that consist of natural ingredients, healing touch, and community care.
At Cher-Mère, we honour these practices by continuing to learn and incorporating them into our philosophy of beauty and wellness. We also support Indigenous-led businesses, such as Kebaonish Teas, an Indigenous and woman-led tea company rooted in traditional knowledge and the spirit of sharing. We proudly serve and sell their teas in our spa spaces as a simple yet meaningful way to uplift Indigenous entrepreneurship and embed care into every visit.
At Cher-Mère, we are part of the Kingston Workplace Charter and strive to:
-
Create inclusive hiring practices and
-
Use our platform to raise awareness of Indigenous issues, stories, and healing practices.
