The Ultimate Hair Care Routine

The Ultimate Hair Care Routine

Let’s talk about hair care! Have you ever felt like you haven’t found the right products that work for your hair yet? Do you or have you skipped steps in your hair care routine to save on time and energy? Are you suffering from the product buildup struggle?

Here is a simple 3 step rule to follow when creating the ultimate hair care routine:

  1. Cleanse
  2. Condition
  3. Protect

CLEANSE

When creating a hair care routine the first step should always be to cleanse your scalp and your hair. Healthy hair grows from a healthy scalp. A healthy scalp needs to be:

  • Properly cleansed
  • Regularly moisturized

By cleansing and moisturizing your hair and scalp regularly, you are helping to treat scalp conditions you may not be aware of and keeping it clean. Afterall, our scalp is a continuation of the skin on our bodies. We have to do our best to never neglect it!

CONDITION

After using your favourite shampoo, I highly recommend following up with a conditioner of some sort. Choosing the right conditioner can be overwhelming because well there’s just so many to choose from! I think it is important to consider:

  • How much moisture has your hair lost?
  • When was your last deep condition?
  • What is your hair telling you that it needs?

As a member of the natural hair community, my hair regularly tells me it needs moisture. My two daughters also have natural hair (a mix of type 3 and 4 hair) and I tend to look for conditioners that:

  • Have ingredients I understand
  • Don’t cause any irritation on the scalp
  • Melt when applied to hair
    • Bonus- works well as a detangler

PROTECT

Now that your hair is properly cleansed and conditioned, the next step is to protect your hair from any unnecessary damage until the next wash day. Protecting your hair can be as simple as you want it to be.

Still unsure of how to find your ultimate hair care routine?

Here’s a glimpse of my routine:

  1. Shampoo regularly (twice each wash day to make sure I’m starting on clean hair)
  2. Condition to moisturize my hair and avoid breakage
  3. Protective style (retwist my locs with only oil on my scalp and an oil-based butter for my hair)

I personally LOVE the Herbal Shampoo which helps to balance my hair’s pH. It also has two of my favourite ingredients which are aloe and tea tree oil. I also like to use the Herbal Deep Conditioner to add moisture to my hair after a proper cleanse. I use the same two products for my daughters’ wash day as well! When I’m styling and freshening up their hair, I love the iNaturals line! The products in this line work so well together that product buildup is a thing of the past and the scent is simply perfection! What I love most about these products is that they work on all three of our different hair types!
