Winter Skin Care Routine and Tips

Winter Skin Care Routine and Tips

The cold weather is here and if you haven’t already perfected your winter skin care routine look no further.  It’s important you shift your focus into moisturizing and rehydrating your skin.  The lack of moisture in the air this season is the main reason you’re suffering from dryness. Let’s go through what kind of products you should use and helpful tips to keep your skin happy and healthy.

Wash ya face!

Regardless of your skin type, you’ll need an extra nourishing cleanser so you won’t strip the skin of its natural oils.

Our natural actives lavender and shea butter makeup remover works as a gentle cleanser and can break down any makeup you might be wearing! It is non greasy, and won’t dry you out.  Shea butter is one of our main ingredients that we use for our body moisturizing products hence why this cleanser is perfect for the winter time. Shea butter’s fatty acids work to improve the skin’s barrier therefore protecting you from environmental forces like colder temperatures.

If you have oily to combination skin, a good winter cleanser to use is our Oatmeal Facial wash with cucumber and passion fruit. The oatmeal is a gentle exfoliator without over drying your skin. The cucumber will soothe your skin while keeping it hydrated due to its high water content. Lastly passion fruit has essential vitamins C and A that are great for anti aging and antioxidants that help skin retain moisture.

Time to tone baby!

Now I am sure you have heard of toner but you might have no idea what it is. Simply put it's a liquid that helps remove any dirt and balance the pH of your skin while minimizing the appearance of pores. We have three toners: toner one with lemon for oily/combination skin, toner two with chamomile and lavender for dry skin and toner 3 with goldenseal and tea tree oil for acne prone skin.   Don’t know your skin type? Get your slug on!

The last step, and arguably the most important, is to moisturize! Our daily moisturizer plus spf is the perfect product to slap on before you conquer your day. Although it has sunscreen as one of the main ingredients it does not leave the skin feeling greasy!  The product is light and easily absorbed into the skin and perfect for any skin type.

Now let’s talk about night time moisturizing. It’s a good idea to add extra hydration before bed to help regenerate your skin overnight. Pair our natural actives rejuvenate night cream or protector cream with our natural actives facial oil with avocado and hemp.  The rejuvenate night cream is loaded with antioxidants that will help brighten, repair and firm while you sleep. The protector cream is the perfect winter dryness cure.  This hearty cream is made with cocoa butter to form a protective barrier that seals moisture into your skin.  Pairing a cream or gel based moisturizer with facial oil will add the extra hydration needed in the wintertime. The natural actives facial oil with avocado and hemp, it’s rich with antioxidants, and omegas 3, 6 and 9. Using a combo of cream and oil will maximize the rehydration of your skin and will help repair overnight so you wake up feeling flawless.

So what is ‘slugging’ and how do I do it? It’s a beauty trend where you use a petroleum based jelly like vaseline to lock in your skincare products overnight.  This isn’t a trend for everyone especially if you have acne prone skin or sensitive skin. That being said the idea of ‘slugging’ ie. adding extra moisture to wear overnight is always a good idea.  However you don’t need to go as far as using a heavy jelly, by combining your cream and facial oil that is the perfect amount of ‘slugging’ that won’t clog your pores.

Take extra care of your skin this winter, you’ll thank us!
