Cher-Mère Talks about Wash Day!

Cher-Mère Talks about Wash Day!

Wash Day! Those two words bring a range of emotions for those with naturally kinky curly hair. It is the day, that you need to block of a section of time dedicated to your tresses.

With a wash day, we also incorporate a steam treatment. Hair steaming does wonders for the hair. It helps to hydrate the hair, and the steam allows the hair cuticle to lift allowing oils from the hot oil treatment to penetrate deeply into the shaft. Hair steaming hydrates and when combined with a hot oil treatment  helps with dry and damaged hair. Cher-Mère Herbal Hot oil treatment is used with our steam treatment.

There are a few options for doing the hot oil treatment. The first option, requires that you warm the hot oil. You may do so by placing in some warm water, which will in turn heat the oil up. Heating the oil helps to help open up the hair cuticle quicker aiding in the steam treatment process. Then, the oil is applied generously to the scalp and some to the ends of the hair. This is a messy process so don't be alarmed as the oil will saturate the hair and may drip. Once all the scalp has been treated, place a plastic cap over and sit under a steam cap for about 15 to 20 minutes. If you don't have a cap, don't fear, your body heat will naturally steam your hair, so do some chores and let your body do the rest (you will have to leave it steam a bit longer ~ 1h).

Another option, uses a mixture of Cher-Mère Herbal Deep Conditioner with the Cher-Mère Herbal Hot Oil Treatment and the the steps above are repeated.

Once the steaming is completed, its time for the wash! To wash, we separate the hair into manageable sections and then we use the Cher-Mère Herbal Shampoo and Cher-Mère Herbal Deep Conditioner on each section. While, the Deep Conditioner is in your hair, take the opportunity to detangle your hair. Once completed, we apply the our INATURAL line of products in the order of INatural Conditioning Creme, INatural Conditioning Oil and INatural Curling Butter and style as desired.
